Forged from a single piece of steel, this incorporates a back twisted tail shaped to rest evenly in the palm of the hand. The blade is leaf shaped and polished to a shine before oiling, the blade itself is forged to sufficient width to allow it to support the piece allowing the handle to be held edge on (see the pictures in the gallary) allowing it to be shown to its best effect. The letter opener is made from 10mm diameter round bar and has an overall length (from the point of the blade to the far end of the handle) of approximately 7-7.5 inches (18-19 centimeters).
It should be added that this piece, while it is sufficient to the task of opening letters and similar, it is not intended as a cutting knife or weapon and would not be suitable for such a use.
